Navigating Life's Leaps: From Small Town Roots to Olympic Heights with Thomas Holman

In this episode, I sit down with Thomas Holman, winner of the 2023 British Gymnastics Double Mini Trampoline Elite Coach of the Year. A childhood friend and reflect on our shared history, from early days at a Cornwall playgroup to diverging paths in school and life. We delve into the challenges of growing up with different familial backgrounds, particularly noting the Scottish and Cornish influences. Thomas shares a deeply personal journey of coming to terms with his sexuality, the societal pressures of growing up gay in a small town, and the eventual relief and struggles that followed coming out. His story transitions into a discussion on his involvement in sports, particularly trampolining, and how passion for the sport, despite initial reluctance, provided a sense of purpose and fulfilment amidst the personal turmoil.

This episode provides a heartfelt narrative about overcoming adversity, the importance of supportive communities, and finding one's path despite societal and self-imposed hurdles.
